CAMPAIGNERS against plans to build 600 houses at Bapchild made their views known this week.

Armed with banners and T-shirts saying 'No More Housing' the group made sure anyone entering the building knew the houses weren't wanted.

Although they weren't allowed to make an address to the inquiry last Thursday, they were allowed to attend, to hear the proceedings.

Objections

The planning inspector heard from Bapchild Parish Council who believe that their village will be ruined if the plans get the go-ahead of the building at Stones Farm.

A consultation process was carried out on Stones Farm, leading to 244 letters — at least half the village population, being sent to Swale Borough Council. But the objections couldn't be counted as part of the inquiry because of the nature of the proceedings.

The campaign also has the support of Swale Borough Council leader Cllr Andrew Bowles (Con) and Cllr Don Jordan (Con).

Andy Hudson, parish council chairman and campaign chief said: "We are delighted to now have the support of the council and councillors and I'm sure the elected members instructed the officers to be robust at the inquiry.

"Their support together with Derek Wyatt's means the community is confident that the inquiry will listen to our arguments and make the right decision for Bapchild, Stones Farm and Swale."
