Mr Paul Sharpe who looks after the planning interests of the Doubleday’s on issues such as Stones Farm, the Kent Science Park and Fleetwood Transport on Hempstead Farm is also a member of the Swale Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment Partnership that identifies sites with potential for housing and their likely delivery.

The Swale Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment Partnership is required to identify specific, deliverable sites for the first five years of the Local Development Framework plan that are ready for development and identify specific, developable sites for up to a fifteen year period.

The scope of the partnership is related to the identification of and timing of housing sites and their overall deliverability.

The Assessment is an important evidence source to inform plan-making, but does not in itself determine whether a site should be allocated for housing development.

Mr Shapre says "I would just like to draw attention to the fact that I am not a member of any Swale Borough Council Committee and certainly not a Member of any Swale Borough Council Committee that decides on housing land availability."

He goes on to say that the following points previously made in this article are incorrect

1. decides which land to develop for housing
2. decides on housing land availability throughout Swale
3. makes key decisions on which sites are put forward for development
4. the Partnership is made up, inter alia, of “members of Swale Borough Council” – it is not
5. Mr Paul Sharpe is also an ex Swale Borough Council employee whom we understand worked in the Planning Department.


We appologise for referring to this parternship with Swale Borough Council and developers as a Swale Borough Council Committee and for suggesting that the partnership itself decides which land to develop, or which sites are put forward for development. Finally we appologise for suggesting that Mr Sharpe was an ex-Council employee and stating that the partnership included members of Swale Borough Council

By members of Swale Borough Council we simply meant Swale Borough Council officers, who we know chair the meetings.
