NEIGHBOURHOODS in Swale are making sure they are in tip-top condition after entering the 2005 Kent Village of the Year competition.

Bapchild, Lynsted, Selling and Upchurch are vying for the con-test's top prize of £6,000.

Categories include environmental action, information technology, building community life, business, young people and older people.

The winner of the building community life class receives £500, while victors of the other categories get £250.

Sponsors include Calor, Kent Reliance Building Society, BBC Radio Kent and Defra.
Organiser Ruth Pascoe said: "Every year our judges have a tough time selecting the winners.

"The standard of entrants is always very high and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the judges for the effort they put into awarding the prizes."

The overall winner will be announced in July.
