Today I attended the Calor Village of the Year finals at the Millennium Hotel in Mayfair, London in which we were up against seven others counties in the Southern and South East England region for a chance to win the regional ICT Award.

Sadly we were not that fortunate on this occasion, but it is the first time, as far as I’m aware, that Bapchild has entered the Village of the Year competition, and to have reached the finals by way of the county competition was still a major achievement.

The winner of our region was the village Bembridge on the Isle of Wight (www.bembridge.com) and they also went on to win the National ICT award too.

calor2It was an enjoyable occasion with a menu devised by celebrity chef Brian Turner who I walked straight passed in reception thinking that he looked somewhat familiar.

The host for the awards was none other than Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, the well-known television personality and farmer-chef famous for his Channel 4 River Cottage Series.

I was a little disappointed, but now understand that the ICT award is about more than just a good website, it has equal emphasis on the role of IT within the community and I think we fell someway short of meeting the criteria in this area. Still if anything, it makes me more determined to do better next year, and perhaps even consider entering the main competition too.
